Like so many other Las Vegas residents I voted to legalize (and tax) Marijuana to help fund CCSD. That money hasn't seemed to help the school district. Class sizes are too large, teachers work second jobs to survive and schools are more like an overcrowded daycare than centers of education that meet the needs of all students. The state needs to step up and figure out how to pay our teachers and support staff a living wage, increase our per capital spending, address special needs and students who slip through the cracks, and teach our youth a functional level of literacy and math skills so they can manage their own finances and do basic business math as adults.
I don't know if that solution is taxing corporations, property taxes, or starting a state lottery but our schools need MONEY and they need administrators that care about students' well being.
Not administrators like Jesus Jara who robbed CCSD blind.

This has happened in Douglas as well they had to merge a elementary school turning 2 schools into one, too many parents decided to homeschool this years and it effected their funding they do get a set amount per student attendance

I agree with you that the State needs to allocate more finances for K-12. What I disagree with is Teachers are paid well, you decide here are the facts CCSD Union Contract: They work 7.5 hour days, 184 days per year = 1380 hours
12 paid Holidays
2 paid free days.
15 paid Sick Leave days New hire Teacher salary $ 57240.00 annual = $41.48 per hour.
Highly qualified Teacher salary up to $141740.00=$102.79 per hour.
The State needs to allocate funds by employment diversity, Rural districts that 90% of the population which are Miners should not have to share the Mining Tax with City's su h as Reno, Sparks & Las Vegas since their MIn source of tax cones from Tourism.

The strain on the Nevada education system is the same as the strain for all of the United States: Having to adhere to the “No Child Left Behind Program”, instituted by George W Bush, with devastating results.
