Change the Funding System for Public education

We are penalizing Rural school districts with the way the current system works. When you are asking districts to speculate on their enrollments in March and submit budgets in April, you are setting them up for failure. Especially if the enrollment declines and now the school district has to send money back to the state. When we see 7/17 school districts on the list of Financial Watch list, there is something inherently wrong with the funding system. The Legislature needs to seriously consider taking a closer look at how this funding formula is crippling Rural School Districts.
