We have a large issue with the lack of multidisciplinary care for kids in Nevada. We need large healthcare organizations to step up and insure they have multiple kinds of specialists within their system to coordinate care together. This issue will certainly be helped tremendously by Intermountain coming in with the children's hospital, but it will need to be supported by the community and state to make it a facility that can truly serve the children across the state (like other children's hospitals in other states). The academic sphere will also need to rise to the occasion and ensure that the medical and academic partnerships are strong. Until we have a fully functioning statewide healthcare system for kids, we need an Electronic Health Record that can be accessed easily. I just went and hand delivered an MRI disc again (this is my 3rd time doing this over the past decade)-- picking up from the hospital facility and dropping it off to the specialist. Because the transfer process was taking too long (one time took 19 days before I delivered it myself). This is unacceptable and causing unnecessary delays in care. It's time to take advantage of the wonderful tech we have these days and utilize that in the (safely) sharing of records!
