The legislature needs to put into law a road use tax for EVs and Hybrids as at this time they pay nothing.

The legislature should adopt and implement an EV road-use fee modeled after those in Utah, Oregon, and Washington State, taxing EVs at 1.2 cents per mile with a maximum annual cap of $144 (12,000 miles per registration year), either through an annual odometer reading at registration renewal or via vehicle telematics. This proposal is fair and non-punitive for EV owners and will help offset road maintenance costs in lieu of ICE vehicle fuel taxes. I also suggest allocating a portion of revenues to repair and maintain NDOT-installed DC fast chargers on Nevada Electric Highway routes, as many have been abandoned.
Gas-based hybrids would be exempt, as said owners pay fuel taxes at the pump.
