Infrastructure and traffic

Reno and the surrounding area continue to grow with new homes and apartments, warehouses and commercial buildings. Unfortunately as the building continues, the infrastructure for traffic control has not. I have lived in Washoe County for many years, including Spanish Springs, northwest Reno and southeast Reno. In each area, housing grew very fast but traffic issues seemed to be put on the back burner. Why can’t traffic concerns be considered prior to housing being built? For example, Spanish Springs traffic on Pyramid Way to the freeway was horrible for many years before additional lanes and reconfiguration was completed. The same is currently happening in South Reno in the Damonte Ranch area. I have lived in this area for thirteen years watching several large apartment buildings coming in as well as new housing. Traffic has doubled. Now new housing is being built on both sides of Veterans Hwy. I can only imagine how much traffic is going to increase to add to the current traffic issues. Downtown Damonte shopping area is also starting to be built which will substantially increase traffic on Damonte and Steamboat as well as I580. Have traffic concerns been considered with all of this new building? How can roads and infrastructure be be added or adjusted when much of the new building is surrounded by the current roads with no room for expansion? I understand how expensive infrastructure can be and much of the money comes from federal dollars. It seems like if the big corporations can build new housing and commercial sites, why can’t they be responsible for paying for the road infrastructure that needs to happen with increased traffic.
