Prevent released pedophiles and sex offenders from renting in homes where children live

East Las Vegas is a dumping ground for released pedophiles, sexual predators, and felons. This is confirmed by “Citizens App” which shows density of registered sex offenders in an area. State police and city police total 5000 for the entire state of NV. Recidivism in this demographic is high. Many families rent rooms to supplement income. Often there are children or teens or women in these homes. Registered sex offenders should not be allowed to rent in homes where there are children and teens or women. Rentals should be managed to avoid situations for re-offending. There are not enough police to monitor this. Parole officers are not monitoring where they move or rent after initial reporting. It creates a dangerous situation. We need to be proactive and reduce opportunities for re-offense.

If people choose to rent out a room in their own home it’s not the responsibility of the police to monitor that. There is a number you can call and report a sex offender to their parole officer. My next door neighbor is a tier 3 sex offender and had to call about him and got a call back the next day from the parole officer. With the amount of schools and parks it’s nearly impossible for them to live anywhere without being near a place where children are. As a parent you have to be on this to protect your children. If your neighbor feels comfortable renting a room to someone without a background check or even know they are you can’t stop that. There is already a system in place for this and it works. We don’t need to add more laws and regulations to be able to monitor this.
