From "Welcome to The Nevada Forum!"

Data Centers are taking up too much water and energy all over our country. Let's not add Nevada to the list of ruined communities. They are bad for the environment, take up too much land, water and energy besides ruining the wildlife habitat and scenery for tourists.

An outright ban on data centers is unnecessary in that some data centers have a closed-loop cooling systems that do not use water, an air-cooled system ora geothermal cooling system. Data centers are not only sources of general economic development, lucrative jobs, and valuable local real estate taxes, but also a source of incremental electricity demand that willing to pay premium rates -- which reduces rates for residential customers. We need more nuanced regulations (not a statewide ban), primarily at the local level and by the energy utility that manages interconnection queues.
