Repeal the Death Penalty In Nevada
From "Welcome to The Nevada Forum!"
Go to the project
Ending the death penalty is a common sense issue that has seen support from both sides of the aisle. The death penalty is racially, economically and geographically biased. It costs around 750,000 dollars more to pursue than a sentence of LWOP or LWP. The death penalty has no demonstrated impact on improving public safety, and can retraumatize victims' families and loved ones who are forced to relive the tragedy time and again in court and the press. Nevada hasn't carried out an execution in nearly 20 years, it is time to let go of this inhumane and ineffectual public policy.

I say keep it and speed up the process. If you receive the death penalty you obviously committed a crime so terrible that death is the penalty. Death row inmates should have no more than 5 years to appeal their case and for the sentence to be carried out. If you replace 25 years to life with the death penalty you also start removing your dangerous repeat offenders. Most prisoners aren’t reformed and are a waste of resources. Reform the stipulations for length of the death penalty add more violent crimes to the list that you can be charged with the death penalty. Create a court that just hears the appeals and makes the decision in 2- 5 years and be done with it. Less violent inmates, less problems, less reoffending, safer streets. Getting soft on crime is not a deterrent. Making harsher punishments is how you get it to stop. There is a murder every other week here and swift justice needs to be served. Not tax payers who already paid for these criminals to free load when they were free and now while we all struggle to make ends meet they get more for free? No. It’s time to get strict timelines on these courts. Judges need to be held criminally liable for releasing dangerous reoffenders into the public as well.
