School Hours

From "Welcome to The Nevada Forum!"

School needs to start later and last longer. We are teachers our children that hours do not matter, when in the real world you work 8to9 hours a day. When they graduate they feel they only have to work 1/2 a day and feel anymore time than that is servitude.

No, schools take enough of the lives of children from them. 5-6 hours max is all a student needs to be educated and complete course materials. I agree with starting later. Sleep cycles are 90 minutes. Taking an hour for most the school year just to give it back in winter doesn't even give a full cycle of sleep. Sleep is needed for growing minds and bodies to build and repair. Depriving a partial cycle and then giving only a partial cycle is torment on the youth. Starting later I agree with, but to keep youths in school longer is absolutely unnecessary. Family culture and connections is more important than times tables and grammar. Read to your kids at night, have them write down words they don't understand for looking up on their own time what the words mean in the dictionaries and encyclopedias. The school is not your babysitter. If you need that for your life and work, you need to find a way to pay for that instead of burdening the tax base.
