Senior and property taxes

The cost to live in Nevada for retired seniors is way too high with the taxes on property, goods, gasoline, etc. I would like to see property taxes adjusted for seniors who own their own. Eliminate the school tax portion of property taxes or provide a 50% discount. This would help own a home in Nevada for seniors. You can base it on income but make it a reasonable income basis because what is considered low income is way too low for Nevadas cost of living.

Senior should not be taxed for their property. When you purchase a home, you’re purchasing the land we shouldn’t have to pay taxes to the state for our land and our home. A special of you’re a senior on Social Security and you’ve been paying property taxes your whole life.

I agree that property taxes are high. We are seniors that own our home yet we pay just over $250 a month (in 2025) for taxes and insurance just to own it. Those costs go up every year. Even as our home ages the property taxes and insurance increase by a minimum of $100 per year each. I realize that setting the rates are influenced by many factors, but it would be helpful to seniors on a fixed income to get a break on taxes and insurance. I also agree that reducing or eliminating the school tax portion for seniors would be fair. We have not had kids in school for many years.
