small town BIG CHANGES :(

I’ve lived here long enough to truly feel the shift, and it’s frustrating to watch. This town used to have a slower, more connected feel—people were kind, helpful, and there was a real sense of community. It had history, charm, and was a place many chose for a quieter, retirement-friendly lifestyle. Lately, that’s been changing, and not in a good way. It feels like the area is being reshaped to fit a completely different lifestyle—one that doesn’t match what made this place special in the first place. The rapid growth, constant construction, and push toward a more crowded, city-like environment are taking away from the balance we once had. This is the desert—not Los Angeles—and it’s starting to lose its identity. Traffic has become a daily issue. What used to be a quick 10-minute drive now takes over 20, and the roads feel more chaotic and less safe. Construction is everywhere—practically unavoidable—and it’s adding wear and tear to vehicles. Meanwhile, long-standing issues like potholes go ignored, while small lots are quickly filled with apartments that feel cramped, out of place, and lacking privacy. People who once had open views now find themselves looking directly into neighboring units. On top of that, open land is disappearing. It’s being replaced with tightly packed housing that feels rushed and poorly planned. This kind of development is also pushing wildlife out of their natural habitats and into neighborhoods and roadways, increasing the risk for both animals and residents. Growth isn’t always a bad thing—but it should be thoughtful and respectful of the people and environment that are already here. Right now, it feels like we’re losing more than we’re gaining. And frankly upsetting a lot of locals who’ve lived here their whole lives. Or majority of their lives. Yes we can go anywhere but we lived here that was the point of being here before all the changes we didn’t ever need. Most locals here can’t even afford an apartment because of the increase of all these factors. The wages here are too low to afford any of your bills. That used to not be a big of a problem here. Now the problem is everywhere. There’s also been a noticeable increase in overall activity, and not all of it feels positive. We’re seeing more incidents and types of crime that never used to reach this point here—things that longtime locals wouldn’t have expected to become common. It adds to the feeling that the area is changing too fast without the right support systems in place. As the population grows, it’s important that safety, infrastructure, and community standards keep up, so the people who have called this place home for years can still feel secure in it. Instead with all this money we’re putting into, you should be putting it towards the homeless people, the education system, the roads so we can safely drive, figure out ways to make the crime rate down, rebuild/ reuse buildings we have had for years that have been just sitting there, would be nice instead of adding buildings. we need to stop the building. We don’t like want it, or need it, thank you.
