Stronger Penalties For Crimes, Better Deterrents

From "Welcome to The Nevada Forum!"

Go to the project

The culture of our city is failing, our valley is found with a shortage of patrolling officers, and it is a known fact once criminals leave their custody it is a downhill spiral there after. The response times are affected, the officer to citizen ratio has been dwarfed. The circus of the courts deliver minimum penalties more often than not, understandably for first time offenders, but that standard should then shift to firm and concrete structure and in a timely and efficient manner. When the courts fail, there is a huge vacuum for a rise in crime. This is happening from my vantage point in Las Vegas now. The penalties for theft, fraud, violent crimes, should burden the criminal more than enough to deter them from considering committing any of those crimes. That culture once had a presence in early Nevada history but has tilted far from it now. It needs to return with a great show of strength and support. If feels as if the culture puts the citizens as second tier value and elevates opportunities for criminals in the process. It is enough to consider relocating out to a smaller community instead of suburbs of a larger city like Vegas. This is this citizens insight from the past 46 years. I believe we deserve better.

if people aren't allowed to learn from their mistakes, no amount of jail time will ever be sufficient. Emotions cannot and should not drive a punitive system.

@Uber Grand P. So if your only child who just turned 23 years old was killed in an accident and the other person was at fault, you think the person who killed my son is suffering emotionally enough that he shouldn’t be in jail? Yeah no. But guess what?!? you got your wish. They changed the law a few years back to change it to a minor traffic violation and he only got a ticket. So tell me again how he’s got emotions and he will be changed and different now so he doesn’t need jail time? Not all crimes are victimless. This happened January this year. The jail time isn’t always about the person committing the crime. It’s for the victims. I would 1000% rather have my son back but to know I won’t and the person responsible for killing him gets to go on living his life is not ok.

I would like to see the harshest punishments for DUI/ impaired driving. It’s seems people don’t take it seriously because their punishment is the equivalent of a fix-it ticket.
