Urban planning is the top issue facing the Las Vegas Valley.
Our streets are not pedestrian friendly and difficult to navigate. We fail to separate from slow moving and fast moving.
Land uses are pretty segregated and done in a large-scale development practiced. A detached homeowner rarely walks to a corner store.
Codes and policies are mainly responsible.
Las Vegas area is among the densest urban area the country with so many compact lot homes and yet it is the most car dependent.
Front panel garages and parking lots dominate the front view of buildings instead of other aspects such as porch.
We need alternatives to infill and outward development.

Vegas urban development made all the mistakes in its sprawl with thoughtless planning and design for the sake of instant gratification. N sense of continuity in community. Thoughtless theme like architectural one after the other in retail centers and housing development. There is a zero attention for greenscape/zeroscape to provide streets and infrastructure continuity and sense of place. Thoughtless signage programs add to the issue in streets scape
Now Reno is allowing the same sloppy expansion. Where Reno was very much in control of development and its colorizing of community, They seem to have bought into housing communities that fail to contribute to a desirable park and street scape from developers. Neighborhoods have become the same stucco materials and colors of the southern Nv areas
