Why Does Nevada Continue to Rank Among the Highest for Human Trafficking?

If Nevada could solve one problem, it should be the ongoing crisis of human trafficking and child exploitation. This issue is often discussed, but not fully understood. Las Vegas continues to rank among the highest areas in the country for trafficking, and yet there is still a lack of clear, consistent solutions being implemented at scale. What makes this especially concerning is that many cases involve local youth, not just individuals brought in from out of state. That means this is not a distant issue. It is happening within our own communities. To truly address this, we need to ask harder questions. Why does this problem persist at such high levels in Nevada? Is it our economy, our infrastructure, gaps in data, lack of coordination, or something else? For me, this is important because it directly impacts vulnerable children and families in our state. If we are serious about improving Nevada’s future, this is a problem we cannot afford to ignore. I believe the solution starts with better data, stronger coordination between agencies, increased prevention efforts, and real accountability. I am interested in hearing from others. What do you believe is driving this issue, and what should Nevada be doing differently?
